PORTLAND, Ore. - Juniors PJ Taylor and Marcus
Wells each scored 17 points, while James Hollins knocked down 16,
to lead the Lewis & Clark men's basketball team over visiting
Portland Bible 81-56 on Wednesday evening in the Pamplin Sports
Complex.
Taylor finished the night 6-8 from the floor, including
finishing 5-8 from behind the 3-point line. Wells came alive for
Lewis & Clark in the second half scoring five three-pointers in
the half, after heading into the locker room with just two points.
Hollins was just as effective as his teammates from behind the arc,
hitting 4-9, while also coming down with a team-high nine rebounds.
Senior Kelly Edwards had a well-balanced game for the Pioneers,
scoring nine points, collecting seven rebounds and dishing out five
assists. Edwards also picked up a steal and a block.
Tim Mahan led the Wildcats with a game-high 26 points, while
teammate Dustin Hutley collected a game-high 10 rebounds.
The first half began with the two teams tying the score on four
occasions before the Pioneers kicked things into gear, running up a
12 point, 29-17 advantage, with 6:44 remaining in the period. A
three-pointer at the buzzer by Mahan sent the two teams into the
half with the Pioneers leading 36-25.
Lewis & Clark held control of the game the rest of the way,
running up a 20 point lead just three minutes into the second half
on a shot from distance by Hollins. The Pioneers earned a 77-41
lead, their largest of the game, with 8:08 remaining in the contest
with a layup by Connor Freeberg. The Wildcats would earn a couple
points back to cut the Pioneers winning margin to 29 points.
The Pioneers return to the court on Thursday, Dec. 30 when they
host California Baptist at 7 p.m.
