BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Pacific Boxers took
full advantage of its home court on Friday night, defeating the
Lewis & Clark men's tennis team 6-3 at the Tualatin Hills
Tennis Center. The Pioneers earned two of their three points from
singles action, with both Vincent Groot and William Parker picking
up victories.
Groot took down Michael Oakda from the No. 1 singles spot, after
battling through three sets. Groot took the first set 6-4 before
Okada bounced back to grab the second set. Groot buckled down in
the third set to guarantee the Pios a point with a 6-4 win.
Parker's point came from the No. 5 singles spot after he and
Patrick Kinghorn did battle. Parker had little trouble defeating
Kinghorn, winning back-to-back sets (7-5, 6-1).
Groot and teammate Peter Ray paired up to take down Spencer Hing
and Micah Leo at the No. 1 doubles position after fighting through
a super tie-breaker. The set was tied 8-8 before Groot and Ray
earned a 10-4 win in the tie-breaker to earn the decisive point for
a 9-8 win.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 5 at 12 p.m. when
they take on Puget Sound on the road in Northwest Conference
action.
