GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. – It was a bittersweet day
for the Lewis & Clark baseball team that honored its five
departing seniors prior to the start of its doubleheader against
Linfield College. The Pioneers thanked four-year letter winners
A.J. Brown, Neal Finch and Evan Fairmont for their dedication to
the team, as well as two-year letter winner Jordan Wlodarczyk and
transfer Colin Dietz. Following the festivities it was down to
business with the Pioneers trying their hardest to once again upset
the Wildcats. Linfield had other plans and managed to earn an 8-3
victory in game one, before squeezing out a 4-1 win in the second
game.
Linfield wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating two runs
in the opening inning. Stewart Davis brought in the first Wildcat
run after singling to right field and allowing Dustin Smith to
advance home. Cole Bixman came around to score moments later.
The Wildcats posted two more runs in the next inning to increase
their advantage to four. The Pioneers responded in the bottom half
of the inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Parker Dane led
things off with a single to center field and would come around to
score on a Wildcat error. Jim Bray picked up an RBI after grounding
out to the shortstop, which allowed Brown to score from third.
Michael Ball scored the team's final run courtesy of a Tucker
Laurence single.
Both teams would hold each other scoreless through the third
inning, before Linfield tacked on two runs in the following two
innings. The Pioneers would try to chip away at the lead, but would
be unable to inch any closer as the Wildcats posted two more runs
in the seventh and final inning for a 8-3 win.
Smith once again came around to score in the first inning for the
Wildcats, posting the team's first run of game two. Tyson
Smith put the Wildcats up 2-0 in the third inning on a single from
Rhett Fenton.
The Pioneers cut the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth with
a run from Dane. Bray picked up his second RBI of the day on the
play, hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.
Linfield answered back in the top of the next inning putting up two
runs to take a 4-1 lead. The score would stick, handing the
Wildcats their second win of the day.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 14 as they host
Pacific Lutheran in two seven-inning games, with game one starting
at noon.
