GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
baseball team picked up where it left off against Whitman College a
day earlier, taking down the Missionaries 9-3 in game one of its
doubleheader at the Houston Sports Complex. Jim Bray led the way
for the Pioneers in game one of the twinbill, finishing 2-3,
producing two runs, walking once and earning one RBI. The two sides
battled back and forth in game two, with the Missionaries coming
from behind to pick up a 9-6 win.
Jordan Wlodarczyk's double to right center field got the
scoring started for the Pioneers in game one, bringing in three Pio
runners. Kevin Condon was the first runner to cross the plate after
reaching base on a single up the middle, followed by Tucker
Laurence who singled to center. Sami Morgan rounded out the Pio
runners courtesy of a fielders choice that allowed him to take
first.
Whitman scored their first run of the game in the top of the
fifth, with its lead off batter eventually making his way around
the bases for the score. It didn't take long for the Pios to
retaliate, putting up five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The inning began with yet another Wlodarczyk double, followed by a
home run from Michael Ball. Ball's home run was a shot over
the fence in left field that found its way over to the Pioneer
batting cages. The home run is Ball's third of the
season.
The runs would continue to come in just two batters later, with
catcher Neal Finch hitting a home run of his own. Bray came around
to score on Finch's blast to left center, after reaching base
with a double to the center field fence. Sam Holman scored the
team's final run of the inning, coming around to score on a single
by Laurence.
The Pioneers made the score 9-1 in the seventh inning with Bray
hitting a solo shot to left center. Whitman earned two runs back in
the top of the eighth inning, but it would not be enough to take
down the Pioneers.
Game two proved to be a more competitive, back and forth game that
saw the Pioneers take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Laurence scored the lone run of the inning, with Wlodarczyk picking
up an RBI on his sacrifice fly to right field.
The Pios would have little time to enjoy their lead, as Whitman
put up six runs in the top of the next inning. The Missionaries
were able to take advantage of the Pioneers by playing small ball,
collecting their six runs on just three hits.
Lewis & Clark answered back in the bottom of the third,
cutting the score to 6-5 Missionaries. Ball scored the first run of
the inning with an RBI going to Wlodarczyk. A.J Brown collected his
third home run of the season, bringing in Laurence. Bray scored teh
final run of the inning on a single by Parker Dane.
The Pioneers tied the game 6-6 in the fourth inning, with Laurence
knocking in Ball who had reached base on a double to left
field.
Whitman would pull away in the sixth inning, picking up two more
runs to take an 8-6 advantage. The Missionaries would plate one
more run in the final inning of the game to seal a 9-6 win.
The Pioneers return to the Houston Sports Complex on Wednesday,
April 1 at 4:30 for a matchup with Corban College.
