LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Lewis &
Clark women's tennis team slip the first two games of its
five game California trip, falling to Occidental College 3-6,
before defeating California Tech 6-0. Sophomore Whitney DeBree led
the way for the Pioneers, grabbing two singles victories as well as
a double win with teammate Amalia Nilsson.
DeBree's first singles win came at the No. 2 singles spot
against Jen Wahba of Occidental College. DeBree took both sets,
winning the first one 6-3 before winning the second set 6-4. The
pair did battle again, this time in doubles with DeBree once again
having the upper hand. With Nilsson by her side, DeBree took down
Wahba and Kris Subbiah 8-3. It was the second time that Subbiah
went down, falling to Nilsson at the No. 1 singles spot by
identical 6-4 results.
Against California Tech, DeBree moved into the No. 1 singles spot,
defeating Lang 6-1, 6-1. Paige Earhart defeated M. Jung in the No.
2 spot, 6-1, 6-0, while Clio Beatty took down W. Ye in the No. 3
spot 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 4 singles spot, Mika Yokayano defeated C.
Dung (6-0, 6-0), Alix Dixon defeated P. Siriana at the No. 5 spot
(6-0, 6-0), while Caitlyn Homer took down S. Shaia at the No. 6
spot (6-0, 6-0).
The Pioneers return to the courts for game three of their trip,
facing Claremont at 2 p.m.
