WALLA WALLA, Wash., - A short sided Lewis &
Clark men's tennis team slipped to Northwest Conference and
nationally ranked No. 19 Whitman College on Friday afternoon on the
road by the final score 9-0. The Pioneers fall to 2-10 on the
season, while Whitman improves to 8-2.
The Pioneers only fielded five players for singles, while producing
two doubles squads. Vincent Groot battled from the No. 1 singles
spot, but was unable to hold off Nadeem Kassam falling 6-2, 6-3.
Peter Ray put his best foot forward, taking on Justin Hayashi from
the No. 2 spot (6-0, 6-1), while Andrew Moller fell at the No. 3
spot 6-1, 6-1 to Thomas Roston.
Conor Holten-Burke defeated Matthias Kullowatz 6-1, 6-2 in the No.
4 spot, while Quinn Carter-Roth had his hands full with David
Deming in the No. 5 spot (6-1, 6-3).
Whitman earned both doubles points that the teams competed for,
with Hayashiand Dan Wilson defeating Groot/Ray 8-2. In No. 2
doubles Kullowatz and Moller fell 8-0 to Kassam and Chris
Bailey.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, March 14 taking on
NWC opponent Whitworth on the road. The match is set to begin at 10
a.m.
