PORTLAND, Ore., - The Lewis & Clark
men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season and
first in Northwest Conference action with a 7-2 victory over George
Fox on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers took advantage
of the Bruins inability to man players for the No. 5 and 6 singles
positions and No. 3 doubles spot, picking up three quick
points.
Vincent Groot knocked off Scott Barnett from the No. 1 singles
spot, after battling through three sets, eventually prevailing 6-3,
4-6, 10-3. Luke Wheeler earned a point for the Pios in the No. 2
spot, capturing a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stefan Lagielski. Peter Ray had
his hands full with Ralf Schulz in the No. 3 spot, fighting through
three sets, but would be unable to come up with a point, falling
6-3, 2-6, 10-6. The Pios final singles point would come from Andrew
Moller who briskly took a 6-1, 6-0 victory from Ross Budreau.
The two sides would split the doubles points, with Groot and Ray
taking down Lagielski and Schulz from the No. 1 spot, 8-6. The
Bruins duo of Barnett and Budreau grabbed the other doubles point
with an 8-5 win over Wheeler and teammate Matthias Kullowatz.
