McMINNVILLE, Ore. – It was a rough day for the
Lewis & Clark Pioneers who dropped a 59-14 decision to #7
Linfield on Saturday afternoon at Maxwell Field. The Wildcats
improved to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in Northwest Conference play.
The Pioneers slipped to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the NWC.
The Wildcats took a 42-0 advantage before freshman Logan Kotzian
was able to put the Pioneers on the board before the half. The Pios
marched down the field 57-yards, stringing together nine-plays that
ended with Kotzian receiving the ball for the five-yard
touchdown.
Despite the L&C score the Wildcats headed into the locker room
up 42-7, outgaining the Pioneers 357-110 through the first two
quarters.
The second half was similar to the first, with the Wildcats owning
most of the possession and taking care of their opportunities. The
Pioneers managed to get another touchdown on the board with six
minutes remaining in the game, on a one-yard run by sophomore
quarterback Nick Wilson. Senior Andrew Foote converted his second
point after point on the play. Wilson's score cut the score
to 59-14 Wildcats, which would end up the final score.
Junior quarterback Tucker Laurence carried much of the load for
the Pioneers, finishing 14-of-42 for 115 yards. Shawn Evans led the
Pioneers in receiving yards, catching the ball six times for
42-yards. Freshman Chuck Krause led the Pios defensively, coming up
with six solo tackles.
The Pioneers return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
for their homecoming game against Crown College.
