The Pioneer men's and women's tennis teams both fell 5-4 to the
Willamette Bearcats with the men playing at home and the women in
Salem. Amalia Nilsson continued her unbeaten streak at #1 singles.
Allen and Frouws earned a victory at #1 doubles.
The men lost 5-4 (results) at the
L&C Tennis Dome Sunday morning. George Allen (sophomore,
Madison, Wisc.) and Dirk Frouws (freshman, Oisterwijk, Holland)
earned an 8-5 victory at #1 doubles. Luke Wheeler (junior, Durango,
Colo.) won 7-6, 6-1 at #2 singles. The Pioneers other two points
came from victories at #5 and #6 singles. Peter Ray (sophomore,
Boulder, Colo.) won 6-0, 6-2. Adam Rager (freshman, Bellingham,
Wash.) had a 6-3, 6-7, 12-10 victory.
The women fell 5-4 in Salem (results). L&C
won two of the three doubles matches and also won #1 and #2
singles. WU won #3 doubles and claimed wins from #3 through #6 in
singles. The decisive victory was earned by the Bearcats at #5
singles, when she edged Maggie Peach, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4.
The Pioneer women play an exhibition match at the L&C Tennis
Dome Sunday morning against Green River Community College. It is
their final home match of the season.
