The Pioneer men's tennis teams closed out the weekend with a
9-0 (results) sweep
of the George Fox Bruins Saturday morning in the tennis dome.
The Pioneers had to battle for their three doubles points,
winning 8-6, 8-5, and 8-5. They had a much easier time with the
doubles victories, with George Allen (sophomore, Madison, Wisc.)
leading the way at #1 doubles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. The only
close match was at #4 where Andrew Moller (junior, Wilsonville,
Ore.) battled for a 6-4, 6-7, 11-9 victory.
The men will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Whittier in a
non-Conference match at 4pm in the Tennis Dome.
The women's match, scheduled to be played on the outdoor courts
at George Fox, got moved to being an indoor match at the L&C
Tennis Dome with the women earning a 6-3 (results) victory
Saturday evening.
Amalia Nilsson (freshman, Stockholm, Sweden) improved to 12-0 in
Conference singles and doubles with a pair of victories. Lisa
Harunaga (sophomore, Kailua, Hawaii) teamed with Maggie Peach
(sophomore, Bellingham, Wash.) for an 8-0 victory at #2 doubles,
then went on to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at #2 singles.
The Pioneer women remain in third place in the Northwest
Conference with a 10-2 NWC record. They will take on the top-ranked
Linfield Wildcats Friday afternoon in the tennis dome.
