The Pioneer women improved to 5-1 in the NWC with a 6-3 (results)
victory over the Willamette Bearvats Saturday morning in the tennis
dome.
Amalia Nilsson and Whitney DeBree set the tone with a dominant
8-0 victory at #1 doubles. Lisa Harunaga and Maggie Peach also won
at #2 doubles, 8-3.
In singles play,Amalia Nilsson won 6-0, 6-2 at #1 singles. Lisa
Harunaga won 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles, and Whitney DeBree powered
through for a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #3. All three players improved to
6-0 at singles in Conference play this season. Maggie Peach also
won, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #5.
The men fell 8-1 (results) at
Willamette. Results and recap will be posted once we receive the
stat files. Luke Wheeler earned the lone point for the
Pioneers, battling for a 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (10-8) victory at #2
singles. George Allen and Dirk Frouws put up a fight at #1 doubles
before bowing 8-6.
The Pioneer men are in eastern Washington next weekend, taking
on Whitman and Whitworth. The women will play one match, a key
showdown with the Whitman Missionaries.
