The men's basketball team rolled past the Portland Bible
College Wildcats, 90-61, at Pamplin Sports Center on Saturday,
November 29 (boxscore).
From the start, the Pioneers seized control, dictating the tempo
and style of the game. In no time at all, the Pioneers were able to
find their groove and score at will, as they took a 47-29 lead by
the end of the first half. Tyson Papenfuss (Sr., Clackamas, Ore.)
guided the Pioneers to a strong first half, tossing in 14 points,
going 6-7 from the floor.
Without skipping a beat, the Pioneers extended their 18 point
first half lead to 25 points in the first three and a half minutes
of the second half. Powered by Papenfuss, who scored 12 points in
the first five minutes of the half, the Pioneer offense was
unstoppable. With little response from the Wildcats, the Pioneers
had pushed their lead to 74-40 by the 11:00 mark. The Pioneers
maintained a steady 30-point lead for the remainder of the
game.
Controlling the tempo for the Pioneer offense was Josh Kollasch
(Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) with a game high seven assists. James Hollins
(Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) had another solid performance for the
Pioneers, going 5-10 from the floor, including 4-7 from three-point
range, adding 14 points. Tyler Tsukazaki (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii)
added 10 points after being sidelined in last Tuesday's game
due to illness. Kyle Meeuwsen (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) and James
Edwards (Fr., Carmichael, Calif.) both provided a dominant presence
in the paint for the Pioneer offense in the second half as they
combined for 16 points.
Tyson Papenfuss led all scorers for the fourth game in a row,
finishing with 25 points in just 22 minutes of play. Papenfuss went
10-12 from the floor, including 2-3 from beyond the arc and a
perfect 3-3 from the free throw line.
With the win the Pioneers improve to 4-1.
