The Pioneer men's basketball team earned a decisive 76-55 (box score) road
victory Friday night in Newberg over the George Fox Bruins. David
Berggren scored 16 points to lead the Pioneers. Josh Kollasch
scored 12.
After falling behind 10-3 in the opening five minutes, David
Berggren (junior, Tualatin, Ore.) hit two three-pointers to put the
Pioneers back within a point, 10-9. Josh Kollasch (sophomore,
Tucson, Ariz.) followed with a layup to put the Pioneers ahead, a
lead they never relinquished. After putting together an 18-3 run
and an 18-4 run, the Pioneers went up 39-21. George Fox hit a
buzzer-beating three to narrow the game to 14, 39-25, at the
half.
In the second half, George Fox made an early run themselves,
narrowing the gap to just seven, 40-33, with 16:49 remaining in the
game. Another three-pointer by Berggren, followed by an and-one
layup by Nick Thierry (senior, Aloha, Ore.) and a three by Corey
Allen (junior, Portland, Ore.) put the game back in Pioneer
control. They held on for a 76-55 victory.
David Berggren hit four threes, scoring 16 points to lead the
Pioneers. Josh Kollasch, playing in his first game since January 2,
scored 12 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Gene Rivera
(senior, Kahului, Hawaii) scored eight points with seven rebounds
and two blocks.
With the victory, Lewis & Clark improves to 9-4 (3-2 NWC).
George Fox falls to 4-10 (0-5 NWC).
The Pioneers close out the weekend with a Saturday evening game
back on the home court. They host the Willamette Bearcats at 8pm,
