Men's Soccer Earns Second-Ever Tie, With 2-2 Draw Against Northwest

Dylan Weinstein scored his first goal of the season

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College men's soccer earned their first-ever home tie with a 2-2 draw against visiting Northwest University (WA) on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.Ā
Ā
THE BASICS
Ā
Lewis & Clark 2, Northwest 2
(Lewis & Clark 0-2-1)Ā
(Northwest 1-1-1)Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
Junior Dylan Weinstein and sophomore Sam London each scored to help Lewis & Clark earn their second result as a varsity program and snap a 25-match losing streak.Ā
Ā
London opened the scoring in the 18thĀ minute, when he drew a foul in the box and calmly scored his penalty kick. Weinstein made it 2-1 in the 43rdĀ minute off an Aashir Walson cross.Ā
Ā
Northwest would tie the game early in the second half, but Lewis & Clark held strong defensively and continued attacking the Eagles defense and created several good chances.Ā
Ā
Senior Declan Cloutier and junior Keahi Meredith spit time in net. Both goalies played 45 minutes and allowed one goal. Cloutier posted two saves in the first 45 minutes.Ā
Ā
Ngzaikue Kandetu and Tristian Evans each scored for the visitors.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark took a 1-0 lead at 17:05. London had an Eagles defender barrel through his back at the edge of the box and the referee quickly pointed to the spot. After a lengthy delay, London sent the keeper the wrong way and easily put his shot inside the right post.Ā
Ā
Northwest countered with a goal at 22:30 to make it 1-1. Kandetu rose up and headed home a Titus Bishop corner kick to even the score.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers retook the lead at 42:22. Walson drove past a defender along the far sideline and crossed the ball into the box. The pass fell just behind Weinstein, who got a touch to keep the ball from going past him. He had to run backwards to collect it, dribbled through two defenders and then blasted a right-footed shot through traffic for a 2-1 lead.Ā
Ā
Northwest evened the score at 47:02. Nick Rivera floated a cross towards the back post and Evans hit a volley inside the post to make it 2-2.Ā
Ā
The game only got more intense from there, as the two teams accrued six of their 10 yellow cards in the second half. Lewis & Clark came out on the front foot after the Eagles goal and posted nine of their 14 shots in the second half – including five of the next six shots after the goal.Ā
Ā
Walson continually gave the Eagles defense problems and he sent several promising crosses into the box that were either shot wide by Pioneers or snuffed out at the last moment by Eagles defenders.Ā
Ā
