Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Schreiner in Home Opener

Lewis & Clark drops second match of Invitational at Pamplin Sports Center

PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College volleyball opened its 2025 home schedule Friday evening at Pamplin Sports Center, falling 3-0 to Schreiner University in the second match of the Lewis & Clark Invitational.

How It Happened

Junior Isabel Meleán-Williams paced the offense with six kills. Fellow juniors HB Schuett and Kaitlyn Jensen added four kills apiece.

Setters Ruby Kuerschner and Kenzie Edwards spread the offense, finishing with 11 and seven assists, respectively. The duo also combined for five kills and 12 digs.

Kuerschner tallied three kills with a team-high eight digs, while Edwards chipped in two kills, four digs and a team-leading two aces.

After falling behind 3-0 to start the match, Lewis & Clark responded with three straight points on a Schreiner service error, an attack error and an ace by senior libero Reilyn Sabado, who finished with four digs. The Mountaineers answered with a 13-3 run to pull away. A block from Kuerschner and junior Christi San Diego, paired with two aces from Edwards, cut the deficit to 16-11 before Schreiner closed the set, 25-18.

In the second set, San Diego's kill pulled the Pioneers within 11-8, but Schreiner put together a 13-5 run. Senior Abigail Warrick ended an eight-point Mountaineer run with a kill at set point, though Schreiner sealed it on the next play for a 25-14 win.

Schuett capped a 10-5 stretch with a kill to bring Lewis & Clark within 15-13 in the third set. Meleán-Williams and Schuett followed with back-to-back kills to make it 17-15, but Schreiner responded with four straight points late and held on to win 25-20.

By the Numbers

  • First-year Ariah Potts finished second on the team with a career-high six digs.
  • Meleán-Williams posted her third match this season with five or more kills.
  • Schuett led the Pioneers with a .286 hitting percentage, recording four kills on seven attempts.

Lewis & Clark continues Invitational play Saturday at Pamplin Sports Center. The Pioneers face Macalester at 4 p.m. before closing out against Colorado College at 6:30 p.m. Matches begin at 11 a.m.
