HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
For the second-straight day, Lewis & Clark men's soccer went toe-to-toe with a conference opponent, before conceding a crushing game-winning goal in the final 90 seconds.Â
Â
Junior
Dylan Weinstein scored his team-leading second goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1 in the 63
rdminute. Senior
Aashir Walson showed off his dribbling skills to create space on the far side of the box and sent a low line drive pass that Weinstein dove on the end of to tie the contest.Â
Â
Junior goalie
Micaiah Garan made three saves to push his total to 45 for the season.Â
Â
Cole Affolter and Landy scored for the Boxers who snapped a two-game losing streak.Â
Â
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with the teams recording just five shots (3-2 Pacific). Lewis & Clark consistently tried to find Weinstein in behind the Boxers defense and the midfielder found success. On two occasions, a Boxers defender was able to knock the ball away just before Weinstein could get a shot off.Â
Â
The intensity would rise in the second half as the two teams combined for 18 shots (11-7 Pacific) and five yellow cards.Â
Â
Affolter gave the visitors a 1-0 edge at 59:22. He received a pass inside the box and his initial shot was blocked by a diving
Emmett Olson. Affolter jumped on the rebound and sent a low shot into the net to take the lead.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark would immediately respond. The Pioneers posted three shots in the 63
rd minute alone, with the third shot tying the game. Sophomore
Brandon Paynter had his shot blocked but he won the loose ball and passed it out wide to Walson. The senior drew three defenders, cut the ball back towards the goal line to create space from all three and delivered a low-line drive pass to the center of the box. Weinstein lunged towards the ball and sent a right-footed shot through traffic to make it 1-1 at 62:43.Â
Â
Both teams would push for a late winner with Pacific forcing Garan to make two of his three saves in the final 30 minutes.Â
The Boxers earned the win in the 90
th minute off a counterattack. Landy received the ball in the middle of the field and held off two defenders, before sending a left-footed shot that snuck its way inside the back post for a 2-1 win.Â
