Bushnell Spoils Men's Soccer's Season Opener

First year Parker Mills made his first collegiate start in the contest

PORTLAND, Ore.—Bushnell University scored two goals in both halves, to earn a 4-0 win over Lewis & Clark College men's soccer in the Pioneers 2025 season opener on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Bushnell 4, Lewis & Clark 0
(Lewis & Clark 0-1)
(Bushnell 3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bushnell scored a goal late in the first half to double their lead and tacked on two goals in the first five minutes of the second half, to spoil the Pioneers season and home opener.

Junior Micaiah Garan and senior Declan Cloutier split halves in net. Garan made six saves on eight shots, while Cloutier played the second half and posted two saves on four shots.

Five Lewis & Clark first years made their collegiate debuts in the contest, including center back Parker Mills who started and played 57 minutes. Mills and sophomore Talen Haywood formed a strong partnership and helped snuff out many Beacons chances.

Offensively, Ben Schwartz, Raff Ladd, Trevor Koo, Daniel Estoll and Mills all recorded shots in the contest. Ladd registered Lewis & Clark's lone shot on target.

Portland product Oscar Barajas stayed red hot to start the season for Bushnell. He finished with a goal and two assists to bring his season total to four goals and 10 points in just three games. Jesus Aguilar, Walter Reustle and Joan Remo Morales also scored for the visitors.

Lewis & Clark created one of their best chances early on. Junior Dylan Weinstein stepped in front of a Beacons back pass at the midfield and ran directly at the Beacons backline that were trying to stay in front of him. He was bumped off the ball by a pair of players at the edge of the box and the referee denied Lewis & Clark a free kick.

Bushnell grabbed the lead in the ninth minute on their fourth corner of the contest. Barajas sent a floating ball to the top of the six and Jesus Aguilar brought the ball down and slipped it inside the near post for a 1-0 advantage.

Barajas doubled the lead at 37:54. Emilio Alfaro's long ball split the Pioneers defense and keeper and Barajas headed the ball over Garan with enough pace to get over the goal line before either center back could catch up to it.

Bushnell put the game away with two goals in a 2:35 span early in the second half. After a Pioneers foul just outside the box, Alfaro's initial free kick went directly into the wall, but Reustle immediately hit the rebound with a volley inside the far post.

The visitors made it 4-0 at 49:53. Cloutier stopped the initial shot from Barajas on the far side but the rebound fell to Remo Morales, who headed the ball into an empy net.

Lewis & Clark would pick up their play from there. They limited the visitors to two shots on goal over the final 40 minutes and recorded two of their own five shots in the final 26 minutes.
