PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's lacrosse made history on Saturday afternoon, earning the program's first Northwest Conference victory in dominant fashion with a 19-1 rout of Pacific Lutheran University at Griswold Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Sage Swegle led the Pioneers with a double hat trick, six goals, and one assist, recording her 40th goal of the season, surpassing her total from a year ago. Junior
Kate Meinhard contributed four goals and two assists, while sophomore
Aviana Gonzales added three goals and two assists in the dominant performance.
First-year
Mack Searle chipped in three goals and one assist, and sophomores
Evelyn Burnett and
Finley Allen rounded out the scoring. Burnett tallied two goals and an assist, while Allen recorded a goal, an assist, and filled the stat sheet all afternoon.
The Pioneers controlled the game from the opening whistle, limiting the Lutes to just three total shots—a new program record. First-year
Kaitlin McRae and sophomore
Zoey Hamel-Hyland split time in goal, each registering a save. Hamel-Hyland also collected three ground balls.
Searle opened the scoring at the 12:33 mark of the first quarter off a feed from sophomore
Ally Vargas-Buell, and Lewis & Clark never looked back. The Pioneers added six more goals in the opening quarter, including two each from Meinhard and Burnett.
Gonzales wasted no time starting the second quarter with a goal just 13 seconds in. Swegle scored back-to-back goals to continue the scoring run, and Meinhard tacked on two more before Gonzales closed out the half with her second, giving the Pios a commanding 14-0 lead at the break.
Swegle dominated the third quarter with all three Pioneer goals, including an unassisted effort at the 4:36 mark that pushed the lead to 17-0. In the fourth, Gonzales completed her hat trick off an assist from Swegle, and Swegle capped her day with a sixth goal on a pass from Allen.
Pacific Lutheran's Kathleen Swankowski ended the shutout with the Lutes' lone goal at 7:59 in the fourth quarter.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers posted a program-best .929 shots-on-goal percentage (26-for-28) in games with 10 or more shot attempts.
- Burnett, Gonzales, Allen and Searle were all perfect on their shot attempts.
- Allen led the team with nine draw controls and four caused turnovers; Searle followed closely with eight draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Searle paced the team with four ground balls. Gonzales, Hamel-Hyland, Swegle and sophomore Lauren Elliott each had three.
