McMINNVILLE, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's tennis moved back to .500 in Northwest Conference play with a dominant 7-0 win over host Linfield University on Saturday morning.Â

Sophomore
Charlotte Makoni and senior
Hayley Kreps each went 2-0 to help the Pioneers earn the season-sweep of the Wildcats. Linfield had a player suffer an injury prior to the match, so the Pioneers started with default victories at third doubles and sixth singles.Â

The Pioneers worked quickly to secure the doubles point. Kreps and fellow senior
Kacie Lau blanked Sundi King and Lilianna Cano 6-0 at number two doubles to clinch the 1-0 lead. Junior
Susanna Anand and Makoni completed the sweep of doubles with a 6-1 win over Emma Tuttle and Kaitlynn Canubida at first doubles. Senior
Lauren Smith-Euben and sophomore
Emma Loucks earned the default win at third doubles.Â

Lau was set to play the sixth singles match but her opponent was injured making it 2-0 to start singles play.Â

First year
Anna English kept the Pioneers momentum going at fourth singles. She dominated Cano 6-0, 6-0 to extend the advantage to 3-0.Â

Sophomore
Maya Curry clinched the win at fifth singles. Curry cruised past Elise Reese 6-0, 6-1 to make it 4-0.Â

Senior
Allison Gabelman routed King 6-0, 6-0 at third singles for her second conference win of the year.Â
Â
Makoni earned the first of two three-set wins for Lewis & Clark. At first singles, Makoni came back to defeat Tuttle 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.Â

In the final match to finish, Kreps and Canubida went the distance at second singles. Kreps took the first set 6-3, but fell 6-0 in the second set. The pair played a third-set, super tiebreaker to 10 points and Kreps completed the match win 6-3, 0-6, 11-9.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
- Lewis & Clark swept Linfield for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Pioneers won the two matches by a combined 12-2 score.Â
- Makoni moved to 3-0 this season at number one singles.Â
- English earned her fifth-straight singles win to move to 8-2 during her first season.Â
- Kreps improved to 5-1 this season in three-set singles matches. She has won five in a row, with two in her past three matches.
