(Lewis & Clark 7-8, NWC 5-5)
(Linfield 1-10, NWC 1-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Charlotte Makoni and senior Hayley Kreps each went 2-0 to help the Pioneers earn the season-sweep of the Wildcats. Linfield had a player suffer an injury prior to the match, so the Pioneers started with default victories at third doubles and sixth singles.

The Pioneers worked quickly to secure the doubles point. Kreps and fellow senior Kacie Lau blanked Sundi King and Lilianna Cano 6-0 at number two doubles to clinch the 1-0 lead. Junior Susanna Anand and Makoni completed the sweep of doubles with a 6-1 win over Emma Tuttle and Kaitlynn Canubida at first doubles. Senior Lauren Smith-Euben and sophomore Emma Loucks earned the default win at third doubles.

Lau was set to play the sixth singles match but her opponent was injured making it 2-0 to start singles play.

First year Anna English kept the Pioneers momentum going at fourth singles. She dominated Cano 6-0, 6-0 to extend the advantage to 3-0.

Sophomore Maya Curry clinched the win at fifth singles. Curry cruised past Elise Reese 6-0, 6-1 to make it 4-0.

Senior Allison Gabelman routed King 6-0, 6-0 at third singles for her second conference win of the year.

Makoni earned the first of two three-set wins for Lewis & Clark. At first singles, Makoni came back to defeat Tuttle 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.

In the final match to finish, Kreps and Canubida went the distance at second singles. Kreps took the first set 6-3, but fell 6-0 in the second set. The pair played a third-set, super tiebreaker to 10 points and Kreps completed the match win 6-3, 0-6, 11-9.
