HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers dominated from the start, sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. Four players finished 2-0 on the day against the Cowgirls. Junior Susanna Anand, sophomore Charlotte Makoni, and seniors Hayley Kreps and Kacie Lau each won matches in both doubles and singles to lead Lewis & Clark.

Kreps and Lau earned an easy 6-1 victory over Emma Curiel and Taylor Levy in the second doubles contest to start the day. Anand and Makoni followed with a 6-3 defeat of Hardin-Simmons' top duo, Laurel Coleman and Jonnah Smith, in the first flight. Sophomore Emma Loucks and senior Lauren Smith-Euben completed the sweep by topping Halle Smith and Addyson Tylaska in a close 6-4 match at number three.

The Pioneers carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Anand set the tone with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Coleman in the top singles position. Makoni followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win against J. Smith in the second singles slot, to extend the Pioneers' lead.

Kreps furthered the advantage by defeating Levy 7-5, 6-3 in the third singles match. Hardin-Simmons claimed their only point when Curiel edged senior Allison Gabelman 7-5, 6-4 in the fourth flight.

First-year Anna English responded with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Triniti McBride in the fifth singles slot, and Lau closed out the match in the lone three-setter, rallying to defeat H. Smith 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) in the sixth position.
