PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College women's tennis prevented a doubles sweep and earned a point with senior Hayley Kreps' win at No. 3 singles, but the Pioneers fell 6-1 to Pacific University in Northwest Conference action on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers struggled in doubles play, with Pacific securing the team point after winning the first two matches. In the first doubles match, Pacific's Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takahashi defeated junior Susanna Anand and sophomore Charlotte Makoni 6-0.
Seniors Hayley Kreps and Kacie Lau fell 6-4 to Sofia Mazzola and Tiara Yeung at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore Maya Curry and first-year Taylor Stadjuhar defeated Valentina Casab-Klescova and Morgan Wagoner 6-3 in the third flight to prevent the doubles sweep.
In singles action, Takahashi defeated Makoni 6-2, 6-0 at second singles in the first completed singles match. Anand then fell to Binder 6-1, 6-2 at first singles.
Mazzola secured another point for the Boxers with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Stadjuhar at No. 4. At fifth singles, Yeung defeated Curry 6-3, 6-2, extending Pacific's lead to 5-0.
The Pioneers earned their lone point of the day at No. 3, where Kreps overcame Casab-Klescova in three sets, winning 4-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (10-4). At sixth singles, Pacific's Yamaguchi defeated senior Allison Gabelman in another three-set match, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4), to close out the dual.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kreps earned her 12th singles win of the year and is 6-2 in NWC play.
- Curry and Stadjuhar earned their first win as a doubles team this season and the first career win for both players in doubles play.
- One match into the second half of league play, only three Pios join Kreps with .500 or better records against conference opponents. Anand is 4-4, senior Lauren Smith-Euben is 3-3, and Lau is 2-2 in NWC singles matches.
