Women's Lacrosse Sets Program Record For Goals In Win Over Boxers

Four different Pioneers finished with four or more goals in the victory

FOREST GROVE, Ore.—Four players scored four or more goals, to help Lewis & Clark College women's lacrosse score a program-record 20 goals in their 20-6 road win over Pacific University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Pioneers scored four or more goals in every quarter and jumped out to a 12-2 halftime lead over the hosts Boxers. With the win, Lewis & Clark improved to 4-0 against Northwest Conference teams this season. All of the contests this year have been non-conference matchups. 
 
First year Mack Searle led the Pioneers with five goals on six shots. She added three draw controls and one ground ball. 
 
Sophomore Sage Swegle added a team-high six points. Swegle notched four goals and a team-high two assists. The midfielder tacked on two controls. 
 
Junior Kate Meinhard and sophomore Finley Allen each added four goals. Meinhard pitched in an assist, a career-high 11 draw controls and three ground balls. Allen registered a career-high four goals on four shots on target, to go along with two draw controls. 
 
Sophomores Aviana Gonzales (two goals) and Evelyn Burnett (one goal) combined for the final three goals. Sophomore Ally Vargas-Buell added on an assist. 
 
First year goalie Kaitlin McRae made two saves to move to 4-1 on the season. 
 
Lewis & Clark jumped all over the Boxers from the opening draw control. The Pioneers scored four goals in the opening 4:05 and six goals in the first quarter. Swegle (13:54) and Allen (13:37) made it 2-0 within 90 seconds. Gonzales and Burnett added goals 61-seconds apart to make it 4-0 just 4:05 into the game. 
 
Swegle completed her hat trick late in the first quarter. She scored goals at 4:10 and 3:35 to make it 6-1. 
 
Searle opened the scoring in the second quarter, before Pacific's Jasmyn Zimmerman cut the deficit to 7-2. Lewis & Clark would score five answered goals before halftime. Meinhard posted back-to-back goals to start the run. Allen and Searle scored 2:04 apart and Meinhard added her third goal of the quarter with 1:43 to go before halftime. 
 
After outscoring the Boxers 6-1 in each of the first two quarters, Lewis & Clark doubled up Pacific (4-2) in each of the final two quarters. 
 
Searle posted three of her five goals in the second half, with Allen tacking on two of her own. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Lewis & Clark's 20 goals are a new program-record for a single-game. The Pioneers scored 19 goals against Pacific Lutheran University in a 19-2 win on March 1. 
  • The Pioneers also registered a program-record 18 caused turnovers in the win. 
  • Meinhard's 11 draw controls are the second-most in program history. Sophomore Lauren Elliott won 14 draw controls last season against Mount Union. 
  • Lewis & Clark outshot Pacific 31-10 and won 20 of the 28 draw controls. 
  • Swegle has score four or more goals in five of the team's first six games and leads Lewis & Clark with 23 goals in six contests (3.833 per game). 
  • Vargas-Buell posted her first assist/point of the season and her third collegiate assist.

Lewis & Clark will host University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
