Reside Wins the 800M To Lead Women's Track & Field At Lane CC Open

Miriam Reside finished first out of 29 competitors in the 800M

EUGENE, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College junior Miriam Reside won the 800M and Lewis & Clark College women's track & field posted five top-50 marks in program history on Saturday afternoon during a rainy, windy and cold Lane Community College Open. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Reside finished first out of 29 runners in the 800M and the Pioneers notched 11 top-10 marks on Saturday. 
 
Reside picked up Lewis & Clark's lone win of the day. She finished 0.13 seconds ahead of Southern Oregon's (NAIA) Alyssa Johnson to win the race. Reside crossed the line in 2:26.71 to win heat one and the overall event. Sophomore Nadia Cota placed sixth overall with a final time of 2:23.43. Fellow sophomore Mackenzie Olver came across in ninth place in 2:39.61. Sophomore Melissa Zurla (2:43.28) and first year Maeva Conroy (2:46.99) ended the race in 13th and 18th overall. 
 
Reside added a sixth-place finish in the 1,500M. The junior placed sixth out of 24 runners with a season-best time of 5:06.96. Olver took 12th place (5:35.56) and Conroy placed 14th (5:41.45). 
 
Sophomore Elsie Chin posted a pair of top-50 marks on Saturday in the sprinting events. 
 
Chin notched a PR time in the 200M to finish sixth out of 17 competitors. Her time of 27.38 seconds was the 27th-fastest in program history. Sophomore Faith Kyser placed 12th in the event with a time of 29.80. Chin added a 12th-place result in the 100M. She notched the 40th-fastest time in school history with a mark of 13.59 seconds. 
 
Senior Tessa Robinson finished in 15th in the 400M with a time of 1:12.83. 
 
First year Talia Tomhave and junior Ali Kerschner each competed in the 3,000M for the first time in their outdoor careers. Tomhave came in third out of seven runners with a time of 11:56.97. Kerschner crossed the line in 13:03.57 to finish in seventh place. 
 
Sophomore Rose Dinh led Lewis & Clark in the hurdles. She finished ninth out of 12 runners with a time of 17.48 in the 100M Hurdles. Sophomore Carolyn Mayberry took fifth in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 17.48.
 
Junior Reilyn Sabado led the Pioneers in the field events on Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the javelin. Sabado finished fourth of 21 throwers, when she launched the javelin 33.28M (109-02 Feet). Junior Anli Davis came in 18th in the event with a heave of 17.92M (58-09 Feet). Sophomore Faith Kyser placed 20th with a throw of 14.91M (48-11 Feet). 
 
Sophomore Divinity Singleton added a top-10 showing in the shot put. Singleton heaved the shot put 10.55M (34-07.50 Feet) to finish eighth out of 29 throwers. Junior Nia Pile registered a throw of 10.02M (32-10.50 Feet) to finish in 12th place. Sabado finished third on the team and 20th overall when she launched the shot put 8.12M (26-07.75 Feet). Junior Michèe Brika (7.74M/25-04.75 Feet) and sophomore Lillian Besa (7.59M/24-11.00 Feet) finished in 23rd and 26th places. 
 
Singleton also led Lewis & Clark in the hammer throw. She finished 15th out of 25 in the hammer with a season-best mark of 31.78M (104-03 Feet). Brika posted a throw of 19.17M (62-10.00 Feet) to place 25th
 
Besa paced the team in the discus. The sophomore finished 17th out of 29 throwers when she registered a throw of 27.81M (91-03 Feet). Singleton launched the implement 27.33M (89-08 Feet) to finish 21st overall. Sabado (26.45M/86-09 Feet) and Brika (17.56M/57-07 Feet) finished in 23rd and 27th places. 
 
Pile led three Lewis & Clark jumpers in the long jump. Pile took 12th place with a leap of 4.62M (15-02.00 Feet). Dinh jumped 4.55M (14-11.25 Feet) to finish in 14th place. Davis ended the event in 18th with a mark of 4.22M (13-10.25 Feet). 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sabado's throw in the javelin moved her into 15th-place in program history. 
  • Lewis & Clark competed in the 3,000M in outdoor track for the first time since 2012. Tomhave (11:56.97) posted the fifth-fastest time in program history. Kerschner added the eighth-fastest time with a mark of 13:03.57. 
  • Chin now ranks in the top-40 in program history in the 400M Hurdles (5th), 400M (8th), 200M (27th) and 100M (40th).  
WHO'S NEXT 
 
Lewis & Clark will open Spring Break next Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field when they compete at the Oregon Preview.
