Buese Ties Program Record With Sixth Career All-American Award

Riley Buese used a late push to finish eighth overall in the 3,000M

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Senior Riley Buese earned her record-tying sixth All-American award on Saturday afternoon, as she placed eighth overall in the 3,000M at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.Ā
Ā
Buese found herself in unfamiliar territory for the majority of the race. The senior sat outside the top-eight, the First Team All-American spots, for all but the final two laps – before using a huge kick in the final 400M to finish in eighth place.Ā
Ā
Just over 24 hours after finishing third in the 5,000M, Buese stepped to the line against a loaded 3,000M Field. She found herself behind the lead pack in the early going and sat in ninth place for the first 600M. Buese would slip back to 11thĀ at the 800M mark and as far as 12thĀ out of 20 runners near the midway mark (1,400M).Ā
Ā
She immediately moved back up to 11thĀ place at the 1,600M mark and cracked the top-10 with 800M to go. Buese moved up to ninth place at 2,400M and used a lap of 39.00 to take control of eight place with a lap to go. She turned in a 35.86 over the final 200M to hold on to the eighth and final First Team All-American spot.Ā
Ā
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Buese tied Lewis & Clark Hall of Famers Chris Miller and Paige Daugherty for first all-time in track & field/cross country program history with six All-American awards.Ā
  • She moved into first-place in program history for Indoor All-American awards (three). Daugherty (two), Miller (one), Caley Cook and Sam Shick are the only other student-athletes in school history to earn All-American honors at Indoor Track & Field Nationals.Ā
  • Buese's time of 9:40.06 was the second-fastest time of her career in the 3K and in program history.Ā
  • In the final 200M of the race, Adriana Catalano of Johns Hopkins passed Buese, moving from ninth to eighth, but Buese passed Olivia Warr of Washington and Lee (seventh to ninth). Catalano turned in the fastest final 200M of the field with a 34.59.Ā
  • Faith Duncan of Wilmington (Ohio) won the race with a time of 9:22.45.Ā
  • Buese earned multiple All-American awards at the same Nationals meet for the first time in her career. She has now finish as an All-American in six of her eight career National races and in five-consecutive National Meets.Ā
  • Lewis & Clark finished tied for 34th on the women's side in the team standings. Buese earned six points in the 5K and one point in the 3K for seven total points.
