SEATTLE, Wash.—Lewis & Clark men's track & field junior
Noah Nelson ran a huge PR time in the 800M to put himself contention for NCAA DIII Nationals to lead the Pioneers on Saturday at the Husky Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nelson and fellow men's junior
Jordan Lahusky each ran PR times on Saturday on Day Two of the Husky Classic.
Nelson already owned the program record in the 800M but still managed to shave off a massive 4.50 seconds from his time last weekend. The junior ran in heat six of the 800M against four NCAA DI runners and two NCAA DII student-athletes. He placed sixth out of seven runners with a new program record time of 1:52.02. He finished 28
th out of 57 runners in the event.
Lahusky added a PR time of his own in the 400M. The junior crossed the line in 50.85 to shave off 1.35 seconds off his previous best time indoors. Lahusky placed eighth out of eight runners in the event.
BY THE NUMBERS
- While his time will be converted due to the NCAA DIII hosting this year's meet on a different-sized track, Nelson should be sitting inside the top-15, likely #13, in the Nation in the 800M. The top-20 student-athletes earn a spot at D3 Nationals in each event.
- Lahusky now sits fourth all-time in program history in the Indoor 400M.
- Nelson has made massive strides in the 800M over the past two weekends. He improved his program record time in the event by 2.72 seconds last weekend at the Portland Indoor Invite #2. He shaved off an additional 4.50 seconds on Saturday for a total improvement of 7.22 seconds. Nelson is one of just two student-athletes in school history to have broken the two-minute mark in the event.
WHO'S NEXT
Lewis & Clark will travel to Newberg for the George Fox Indoor #2 Meet on Friday in their last scheduled indoor meet of the season.
