SEATTLE, Wash.—Senior
Riley Buese broke her own program record in the 3,000M by nearly 20 seconds, to lead Lewis & Clark indoor track & field on Friday night at the Husky Classic.Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Buese and sophomore
Keegan Zaso kicked off the Husky Classic on Friday afternoon against a stacked field of NCAA DI student-athletes.Â
Â
Buese ran a PR time of 9:35.08 to break her previous program record in the event by 19.79 seconds. Her time moves her into fourth in NCAA DIII going into the weekend in the event and gives her a high likelihood of earning a spot at Nationals in the event for the first time.Â
Â
She finished 38
th out of 85 total runners and eighth out of 16 in her heat. Buese raced against 11 NCAA DI runners, one DII runner and three unattached athletes in her heat.Â
Â
Zaso competed in the men's triple jump. He placed ninth out of 11 jumpers with a jump of 13.11M (43-01.25 Feet). He saved his best for last, as the sophomore opened with a jump of 12.96M (42-06.25 Feet) and failed to improve upon his mark on his next four jumps.Â
Â
BY THE NUMBERS
- Buese was racing the 3,000M for the fifth time in her career and has posted a PR four times. No one else in program history has cracked 10:55.90 in the 3,000M.Â
- Zaso's jump is the second-best of his collegiate career. He posted a PR jump of 13.53M last year.Â
- Buese's converted time puts her in the top-15 in NCAA DIII on an oversized track and 30-35th converted all-time in the 3K.Â
- Buese now ranks third in NCAA DIII in the 5,000M and fourth in the 3,000M. She is aiming to make her second-consecutive trip to Indoor Nationals, after placing seventh in the 5K last winter.Â
