Short-Handed Women's Basketball Drops 56-39 NWC Contest to Boxers

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College women's basketball kept it close in the first half, but Pacific University pulled away in the second for a 56-39 Northwest Conference win on Friday night at the Stoller Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First-year Kaitlen Carns led the Pioneers with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior Lauryn Frederickson added 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore DJ Kendrick contributed six points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Madilyn Palosi added four points and six boards.
 
Lewis & Clark stayed within striking distance early, pulling within 8-6 on a Frederickson jumper midway through the first quarter. Pacific responded with a 5-0 run to extend its lead to seven, but the Pioneers battled back to trail just 15-11 after the opening period.
 
The Boxers controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 11-7 to take a 26-18 lead into halftime.
 
Pacific maintained its momentum in the third, using a balanced attack to outscore Lewis & Clark 17-11 and extend its advantage to 43-29 entering the final frame.
 
Carns converted a three-point play early in the fourth to give the Pioneers a spark, while Frederickson added a pair of baskets in the paint to cut the deficit to 49-37 with three minutes remaining. However, Pacific's defense held firm and the Boxers closed out the game with timely shooting, including a late 3-pointer, to seal the victory.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • The Pioneers matched Pacific on the boards, with both teams grabbing 46 rebounds.
  • Carns and sophomore Divinity Singleton led the team with three assists each.
  • Junior Tatiana Rebanal recorded three of the team's seven steals.
  • Sophomore Isabella Bernard came off the bench to contribute five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
