Lauryn Frederickson scores game-high 20 points; Madelyn Sanchez grabs six rebounds off the bench.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College sophomore Lauryn Frederickson led all scorers with 20 points, but it wasn't enough as women's basketball fell to Whitworth University 73-49 in Northwest Conference action Friday night at Pamplin Sports Center.

(Lewis & Clark 4-16, 1-10 NWC)
(Whitworth 8-12, 5-6 NWC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Frederickson shot 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the field, 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the free-throw line, and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Pioneers. Sophomores Isabella Bernard and DJ Kendrick contributed seven points each. Bernard played 20 minutes off the bench, while Kendrick added five rebounds.

Junior Madelyn Sanchez provided strong play off the bench with six rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Madilyn Palosi collected five boards and two steals.

The Pioneers trimmed an early 9-4 deficit to two points after Kendrick hit a turnaround jumper and sophomore Divinity Singleton (five points) made one of two free throws at the 5:19 mark in the first quarter. However, Whitworth closed the period on a 16-4 run to take a 25-11 lead. The Pirates extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 21-14 to take a 46-25 lead into halftime.

Frederickson scored eight of the Pioneers' 13 points in the third quarter as Lewis & Clark edged Whitworth 13-12 in the frame.

Whitworth's balanced scoring attack, led by three players with 15 points each (Ashlyn Peterson, Ashlyn Neilsen, and Addyson Gallatin), proved too much to overcome. The Pirates maintained a 20-plus-point lead for the remainder of the game.
