(Lewis & Clark 2-6-2, Northwest Conference 2-3-1)Ā
(Whitworth 0-5-4, NWC 0-4-2)Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
Jones made nine of her 10 saves in the second half to preserve the 2-0 lead. She picked up her first win and first shutout of the season in the contest.Ā
Ā
Fellow senior Carli Driskill played a role in both Pioneers goals. She floated a free kick into the box that was headed in by a Whitworth player for the opening tally. Just over three minutes later, junior Mischa Vanek headed home a Driskill corner to give Lewis & Clark their first multi-goal lead of the season.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers jumped all over the Pirates – as they looked to take advantage of having Saturday off. Junior Grace Smith posted two shots in the first five minutes and Lewis & Clark spent a lot of time in the attacking half.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark opened the scoring at 17:10. After a Pirates foul, Driskill lined up for a free kick from 40-yards out on the far side of the field. Her free kick flew into a sea of bodies at the top of the six and ended up going off the head of Whitworth's Andie Snell and in for a 1-0 lead.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers doubled their advantage at 20:17. Driskill sent a corner in from the far side and Vanek outjumped everyone and her flew into the near netting for a 2-0 lead.Ā
Ā
The hosts had a phenomenal chance to extend their lead right before halftime. Driskill and sophomore Tatum Akimoto-Albardo each hit the underside of the crossbar and then the Pioneers were whistled for a handball when a mass of players attempted to come away with the rebound just in front of the goal line.Ā
Ā
Whitworth would pick up their play in the second half and force several strong saves from Jones. The senior was forced to make four saves in the final 7:16 alone, including two hard hit shots from inside the box that Jones handled cleanly.Ā
Ā
BY THE NUMBERS
