Loggers Knock Off Women's Soccer 2-0

Senior Abby Morrow appeared in her 65th career game on Sunday

PORTLAND, Ore.—Junior Leila Hausia-Haugen scored in the fourth minute and the final four minutes, to lead visiting University of Puget Sound past Lewis & Clark College women's soccer on Sunday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

THE BASICS

Puget Sound 2, Lewis & Clark 0
(Lewis & Clark 2-9-3, Northwest Conference 2-6-2)
(Puget Sound 8-2-4, NWC 7-0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hausia-Haugen converted a penalty kick 3:01 into the contest and sealed the win with her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 86:27.

Lewis & Clark senior goalie Anna Ingadottir made four saves on six shots to keep Lewis & Clark within striking distance of the Loggers.

Junior Mischa Vanek led the Lewis & Clark with two shots. Vanek and fellow junior Grace Smith posted the team's two shots on target.

The Loggers took the lead in the fourth minute after Hausia-Haugen was tripped up at the top of the box. The junior stepped to the penalty spot and sent a low shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 lead.

Lewis & Clark would create the majority of their chances of the game in the first half and had two great chances to tie the game.

In the 18th minute, Smith received a pass on the far side of the field, drove to the edge of the box and sent a low, hard shot across goal that Puget Sound keeper Gianna Maldonado dove to stop.

Vanek nearly made it 1-1 in the 29th minute. Smith slid a pass across to Vanek inside the box but Vanek's right-footed shot was corralled by the Puget Sound keeper.

The second half would be a cagey affair with the two teams combining for just six shots and one on target.

Puget Sound put the game away at 86:27 when Mazy Wright set up Hausia-Haugen for her second goal of the contest.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Puget Sound finished the game with a 15-6 lead in shots and 6-2 edge in shots on goal.

  • First year Hattie Valdez Lindgren played a career-high 26 minutes off the bench.
  • Puget Sound won both contests this season against Lewis & Clark 2-0. The Pioneers put together a far better statistical game on Sunday after being outshot 21-1 at Puget Sound.
