Pacific Lutheran Downs Women's Soccer 1-0

The Pioneers played their tightest game against the NWC Defending Champions in three years

PORTLAND, Ore.—Tia Schwetz's first-half goal lifted visiting Pacific Lutheran University over Lewis & Clark College women's soccer 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

THE BASICS

Pacific Lutheran 1, Lewis & Clark 0
(Lewis & Clark 2-8-3, Northwest Conference 2-5-2)
(Pacific Lutheran 7-2-4, NWC 7-0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers played their closest game against the Lutes since the 2022 season, but they could not find a second-half equalizer.

Senior goalie Anna Ingadottir made her return to the lineup from injury. Ingadottir, who missed the past two weekends, made three saves on four shots.

Senior Carli Driskill and junior Iris Stutzman led the Pioneers offensively. Driskill paced the team with three shots (two shots on target) and Stutzman tacked on two shots and one shot on goal. Senior Kate Meinhard added the team's final shot/shot on goal.

Pacific Lutheran controlled the ball for most of the first half but Lewis & Clark's defense held strong for nearly 35 minutes. The back four of Elle Sparks, Ava Lazzara, Sophie Rossier and Abby Morrow continually stepped into passing and shooting lanes and cleared the ball away.

The Lutes took a 1-0 advantage at 34:27. Schwetz received a pass in the midfield and managed to spin away from her defender. She dribbled down the left-side of the field towards the top of the box and lofted a chip over Ingadottir and just underneath the bar on the far side for a 1-0 lead.

Lewis & Clark had their best chance to tie the game in the 42nd minute. The Pioneers drew a foul 35-yards out from goal and Driskill stepped up for the free kick. The senior lofted a shot that connected with the crossbar and bounced back into the six-yard box. Meinhard was the first player to it but her header went right to Pacific Lutheran keeper Abby Winkler.

Pacific Lutheran had their best chance to make it 2-0 less than 15 minutes into the second half. The Lutes sent a cross to the near post but Carmen Kiewert's shot went just wide of the post to keep the score 1-0.
