Angie Cummings won the 100 Yard Backstroke and women's swimming notched five second-place finishes on Saturday morning against defending Northwest Conference Champions Whitman College.Â

Cummings was part of three of Lewis & Clark's second-place showings and earned the team's first race victory of the 2025 calendar year.Â

Cummings took first out of six swimmers in the 100 Yard Backstroke. The sophomore cruised to victory by 2.31 seconds, as she touched the wall in 1:02.79. Junior
Jane Tewinkel came in fifth place (1:09.77) and sophomore
Ainsley Rios took sixth (1:27.38).Â

Cummings tacked on a second-place finish in the 400 IM. She placed second out of three swimmers with a mark of 5:08.76.Â

Elise Barton just missed a race victory of her own. She finished in second out eight swimmers in the 50 Free. Barton came across in 26.07, just .02 seconds behind Whitman's Shaye Agnew. Fellow junior
Aniqah Gaffoor placed third in the event with a final time of 26.89. Senior
Claire Baco registered a sixth-place showing (31.01). Rios (31.76) and senior
Josephine Mann (34.72) finished seventh and eighth.Â

Gaffoor added a second-place finish in the 100 Fly. The junior touched the wall in 1:05.64 to finish second out of five racers. Barton took fifth in the race with a mark of 1:08.92.Â

Lewis & Clark placed second in both relays on Saturday morning. The 200 Medley Relay quartet of Cummings, sophomore

Ella Stephan finished in 2:00.05 to place second out of three teams.Â

The Pioneers had two teams compete in the 200 Free Relay. Barton, junior

Ella Gimon, Rios, Baco and Tewinkel notched a mark of 2:01.79 to take fourth place.Â

Lewis & Clark added four third-place results.Â

Justus led four Pioneers in the 200 Free. The sophomore placed third out of eight swimmers with a time of 2:12.35. Hurty ended the race in fifth with a final time of 2:16.10. Stephan (2:17.30) and Tewinkel (2:18.19) placed sixth and seventh.Â

Stephan led a trio of Lewis & Clark racers in the 100 Free. Stephan recorded a time of 1:01.00 to take third place. Gimon placed sixth overall (1:04.09) and Baco (1:11.44) ended the race in seventh.Â

Linkow led Lewis & Clark in the final two individual races.Â

The sophomore finished in third out of six swimmers in the 500 Free. She touched the wall in 5:53.26 to finish two seconds behind the second-place finisher. Hurty came across in fourth place (6:02.91). Justus (6:10.62) and Mann (7:35.85) placed fifth and sixth.Â

Linkow added a third-place showing in the 100 Breaststroke with a final time of 1:15.56. Schroeder notched a time of 1:16.49 to place fifth overall. Gimon came across in 1:24.54 to finish in sixth place.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
- Cummings swam the 400 IM for the first time in her collegiate career. Her time of 5:08.76 was just 0.35 seconds off the best time by a Pioneer this season. AJ Schroeder posted a time of 5:08.41 at the Winter Collegiate Swim Invite.Â
- Linkow notched a season-best time of 5:53.26 in the 500 Free. Her time was a 0.84 second season PR and just three seconds off her collegiate-best mark (5:50.26).Â
- Cummings is the first Pioneers women's swimmer to win an event against Whitman since January 19, 2019 when Lewis & Clark women's swimming earned five wins against the Blues. The two programs did not compete in a dual meet against each other during the 2020-21, 21-22 or 23-24 seasons.Â

Lewis & Clark will return to campus and then travel to take on Willamette University on Friday at 6 p.m. in their penultimate dual meet of the season.Â
