Ishan Abraham scored his first collegiate goal and Lewis & Clark College men's soccer played defending Northwest Conference Champion Pacific Lutheran University even for the final 50+ minutes on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED

Pacific Lutheran scored four goals in the first 35:31 but Lewis & Clark settled in and scored their first conference goal of the season and then held the high-powered Lutes offense scoreless in the second half.Â

Abraham scored his first collegiate in the 38
th minute off a
Daniel Estoll feed. The Pioneers had been aiming to beat the Lutes high line with balls over the top of through the lines throughout the first half. Estoll slid a perfect ball between two center backs and Abraham ran onto the ball. His first touch took him towards the top of the box and he was able to catch up to the ball and slid a shot past the onrushing keeper to make it 4-1.Â

Sophomore goalie
Micaiah Garan came on for the final 45 minutes and stopped all five shots he faced. Junior
Ben Tallent posted four saves in the first half.Â

Pacific Lutheran's leading scorer Trevor Thompson posted his ninth goal of the season and added one assist. Christian Pineda, Craig Johnson and Connor O'Brien also scored for the visitors who sit third in the NWC with 2.50 goals per game.Â

The Lutes took advantage of two early Lewis & Clark mistakes to grab a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes.Â

Pacific Lutheran made it 3-0 when Thompson scored off a pass from Yuta Shimazu at 32:35. Thompson and Johnson connected for a goal in the 36
th minute, when Thompson left the ball for Johnson at the top of the box on a backheel pass.Â

After creating several mini chances throughout the first half, Abraham and the Pioneers broke up the shutout in the 38
th minute.Â

Pacific Lutheran continued to pressure in the second half, as they put up 15 shots, but they couldn't solve the Pioneers defense. First year
Sam Gunderson came through with an important sliding tackle in the box to block a shot from six-yards out. Garan added a tremendous diving save at the far post after the Lutes found a player wide open at the top of the box.Â

Estoll nearly made it 4-2 late in the second half, when the junior muscled through a defender and then blasted a shot from the far side that beat the keeper but went off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
- Pacific Lutheran finished the match with a 34-7 edge in shots and a 14-2 lead in shots on goal.Â
- Abraham's goal was the first two points of his career. Estoll, who scored a goal as a sophomore, recorded his first collegiate assist and the first point of his junior campaign.Â
- Lewis & Clark has now scored in two of their four meetings against PLU. The Lutes have won six of the past seven NWC Championships.Â
- First year Talen Haywood made his return to the lineup after missing the last two-plus games due to injury.Â
