HONOLULU, Hawaii—Lewis & Clark College men's soccer fell 5-0 to Division II Chaminade University on Saturday afternoon in their 2024 season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Three Pioneers first years started and seven made their collegiate debut on Saturday at St. Louis Field. 
 
The host Silverswords scored three goals in the opening 12:22 to take control and added two penalty kick goals to cruise to the 5-0 win.
 
Junior 
Declan Cloutier came on for the final 32:22 and made two saves on three shots. The only goal he allowed was on a penalty kick goal in the 67
th minute. 
 
Sophomore 
Keahi Meredith earned his second collegiate start and first start on Opening Day. The Hawaii native played the first 57:38 in net.
 
Sophomore 
Owen Carroll and freshman 
Sam London recorded the Pioneers two shots on Saturday. 
 
Chaminade opened the scoring at 2:40 when Oliver Horgan scored off a pass from Owen Caba. The hosts added a second goal at 11:32 from Ian Garcia and made it 3-0 when Owen Malone found the back of the net at 12:22.
 
Lewis & Clark grew into the game and posted their first shot in the 33
rd minute when Carroll sent a shot that went just off target. 
 
Chaminade added a fourth goal just before halftime on a penalty kick. London nearly put the Pioneers on the board in the final minute of the half but his shot went just high. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
	- First years Talen Haywood, Emmet McDonough and London all earned their first collegiate starts. 
 
	- Saturday's contest marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The contest counted as a regular-season game for Lewis & Clark. It was an exhibition for the Silverswords who due to NCAA DII rules can't play regular-season countable games until September 7. 
 
	- Ali Alfstad, Alex Woods, Kaden Nakamura and Brandon Paynter all made their collegiate debuts off the bench in Saturday's opener. 
 
	- Chaminade finished the game with a 17-2 advantage on shots and a 7-0 edge in shots on target. 
 
	- The game marked the first time Lewis & Clark men's soccer played a game off the West Coast since October 18, 1991 when they traveled to play the College of Idaho.

Lewis & Clark will take on Hawaii Pacific University on Sunday at 10 a.m. in their second and final game in Hawaii. Â
