Men's Soccer Hosts First Senior Day In Over Thirty Years

Ben Tallent made three saves in his final regular-season home appearance

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College honored their first senior in over thirty years and put together a strong showing against visiting George Fox University in their home finale on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

THE BASICS

George Fox 3, Lewis & Clark 0
(Lewis & Clark 0-19, Northwest Conference 0-15)
(George Fox University 13-5-1, NWC 9-5-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Prior to the contest, Lewis & Clark recognized junior goalie Ben Tallent who is graduating in just three years. Tallent is the first player to play their entire career for the program since they moved back to the varsity level in 2022.

Tallent kept Lewis & Clark in the game early, as he made a tremendous diving stop to his right to deny to deny Connor Kong what looked like a sure goal just 122 seconds into the game.

He played the first half, despite dealing with an illness, and finished with three saves.

George Fox took the lead in the 36th minute when off a corner kick. Joshua Chang sent a cross into the box and Kilinahe Waring hit a left-footed volley into the near netting to make it 1-0.

Lewis & Clark had a phenomenal chance to tie the game late in the half. First year Trevor Koo dribbled through a defender and forced the George Fox goalie to come off his line and make a save. The rebound fell to Ishan Abraham who sent a low shot towards the empty net but a Bruins defender stepped up and cleared the shot away to keep the score 1-0 in the 41st minute.

Sophomore Micaiah Garan came on to replace Tallent at halftime and he made several saves of his own to keep Lewis & Clark in the contest. In the first minute of the second half, Garan was forced to make a diving save of his own to deny Isaac Nakayama.

The Bruins eventually managed to gain some breathing ground thanks to a pair of fortuitous bounces.

George Fox made it 2-0 in the 64th minute, when Nakayama sent a shot from well outside the box that hit off the back of a Pioneers defender and caromed just inside the post.

The visitors added an insurance goal in the final minute of play. The Bruins sent a cross towards the top of the box that Lewis & Clark snuffed out, but the ball bounced directly to Isaac Wilson who sent a one-time, left-footed shot in from 18-yards out.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Over the past three seasons, Tallent leads Lewis & Clark in games played (23) and starts (19) by a keeper and also paces the team with 126 saves. He posted a team-high 15 saves in a single-game during his first season.
  • Koo (two), Abraham and sophomore Simon McGlothern each posted shots on goal for Lewis & Clark.
  • George Fox finished with an 18-4 shot advantage and 9-4 lead in shots on target.
  • Lewis & Clark played 26 players in the contest, with Talen Haywood finishes as the only Pioneer to play all 90 minutes. Junior goalie Declan Cloutier made a rare field appearance as he played the final four minutes.
