PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Celeste Schreifels scored her 34th career goal and 11th of the season to tie the program record in both, while junior Kate Meinhard scored the equalizer for Lewis & Clark College women's soccer, but Whitworth University escaped Griswold Stadium with the three points after scoring in the 88th minute on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Schreifels scored her record-tying goal at 38:53 to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Junior Carli Driskill sent a free kick from inside the sideline into the box, and Schreifels lept to head the ball back towards the near post. Schreifels ties 2022 Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame inductee Lisa Housman with 34 career goals. The first-half goal was Schreifels' 11th this fall, tying herself and Housman for the most goals in a season, with Housman recording the feat in 2004 and Schreifels achieving the mark in 2021.

Keeper Anna Ingadottir kept the Pirates at bay early, making crucial saves on Yacine Bitibale's first shot attempts in each half. The junior finished with three saves as the Pioneers faced 17 total shots.

Driskill assisted both Lewis & Clark's scores in the game to set a new career high. She also sent a free kick in for Meinhard's equalizer in the 82nd minute.

Sophomore Grace Smith tested Whitworth's Anna Boyer early with the first shot on goal for either team in the fourth minute. Bitibale responded a minute later, but Ingadottir saved the shot at the near post. Driskill attempted to put the Pioneers on the board at 13:15, but Boyer stopped the low right shot. The two teams combined for 13 total shots in the first half. Schreifels found the back of the net on the Pioneers' eighth shot in the 39th minute to put Lewis & Clark up 1-0 at the half.

The momentum shifted after the break as Whitworth found their rhythm. Claire Nguyen equalized in the 68th minute off Katherine Kent's assist, and Emma Ellerd gave the Pirates the lead just two minutes later with assists from Nguyen and Kent.

Down 2-1, Meinhard scored the equalizer for the Pioneers at 81:13, converting a deflected free kick from Driskill. The ball bounced off Meinhard 14 yards out and caromed inside the post.

Ingadottir earned her final save of the game, stopping an attempt by Nguyen in the 84th minute. Smith attempted to score the go-ahead goal for the Pioneers in the 87th minute, but a Pirates defender blocked it. Lily Cardenas sealed the victory for Whitworth with a goal in the 88th minute off Baylee Trejo's cross.
