HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
For the second-straight day Lewis & Clark struck first against a tough opponent, but the Lutes scored three goals in just less than 27 minutes to stay unbeaten in conference play and first in the NWC standings.Â
Â
Junior keeper
Anna Ingadottir posted six saves on nine shots. She made two saves in the first half and added four more in the second stanza.Â
Â
The Pioneers opened the scoring at 12:14. Off of a throw in near midfield, the Pioneers slipped a pass into space for
Iris Stutzman. The sophomore raced down the sideline into the box and then sent a low cross towards the center of goal for
Megan Yanagi. A Lutes defender attempted to knock the pass away but instead it deflected off her foot and looped backwards into the Pacific Lutheran goal for a 1-0 Pioneers advantage.Â
Â
Pacific Lutheran tied the game at 1-1 in the 27
th minute. The Lutes played a short corner and the ball made it's way to the top of the box for Julia Causbie. Causbie sent a low shot over two Pioneers defenders and just inside the far post to tie the game at 1-1.Â
Â
The hosts took the lead for good just under seven minutes later. Ingadottir made the stop on Hannah Cecil's initial shot but the rebound fell to the top of the six and Carmen Kiewert beat two Pioneers defenders to the ball to tap it in for a 2-1 advantage.Â
Â
First year Sienna Flock nearly tied the game in the final minute of the first half. Off a throw in from the near side,
Kaedance Stubbs found
Sophia Gill with her back to goal at the edge of the 18. Gill left the ball for Flock who whipped a high shot over the keeper's hands but it hit off the crossbar and bounced back out of danger.Â
Â
The Lutes put the game away eight minutes into the second half. Lewis & Clark appeared to have a chance to counter attack but Lily Dose stepped in to steal the ball away and fed Cecil. Cecil took one dribble and then rifled a shot across the goal mouth from 20+ yards out to make it 3-0 at 53:02.Â
Â
First year
Juliette Miller would record the Pioneers lone shot of the second half in the final six minutes, but her shot went over the net and out for a goal kick.Â
