THE BASICS

Lewis & Clark traveled to Pacific University on Saturday and Sunday for the Pacific 5-Way Tournament that featured the five Northwest Conference schools located in the Willamette Valley. The two-day tournament was broken up into five singles brackets and two doubles brackets with each separate bracket named after a color.

In the championship match of the Purple Bracket, Cohen dispatched Emily Redwood of Linfield University 6-3, 7-5.

In the highest-ranked bracket (Yellow singles), sophomore Susanna Anand and senior Seraphina Vossen each picked up a victory apiece. Anand, the reigning NWC Rookie of the Year, opened her campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alexa De Crinis (Willamette), before falling to Pacific's Sydnie Binder (7-5, 6-0). Vossen dropped her opening match (6-2, 6-2), but responded with an 8-7 (10-2) win over Emma Tuttle of Linfield.

Freshmen Charlotte Makoni and Emma Loucks each made their collegiate debuts in the Pink Bracket. Makoni collected her first collegiate win with an 8-7 (10-5) victory over Valentina Casab-Klescova (Pacific) in a consolation semifinal match. Loucks fell in the same round to Cassey Hitch (George Fox University) 8-5.

Junior Soraya Young-Pen added her first collegiate win in the Green Singles Bracket. In the first round of the consolation bracket, Young-Pen knocked off Willamette's Ruby Thompson 8-7 (10-3).

Six of the Pioneers competed in the doubles bracket. Makoni and Loucks paired up for Lewis & Clark's lone doubles win. The freshmen duo knocked off Anna Emerson and Morgan Wagoner (Pacific) 8-2 in the opening round of the Red Doubles Bracket.
