HOW IT HAPPENED

All four of the Pioneers' shots in the first half were on goal, and their best chance to take the early lead came in the 28th minute. Sophomore Carson Warfield took a free kick on the near sideline at the top of the penalty box and found Celeste Schreifels on the far post. The senior headed the ball past Beacon's keeper Lexi Bates, but Bushnell's Myla Chow was there to block the ball before it crossed the goal line.

In the second half, Lewis & Clark's Sophia Young, starting her 40th collegiate game at the net, recorded her first save of the game in the 54th minute. The senior keeper made a diving save on an Abbie Chambers shot that bounced back into play. The Beacon's Emily Puita booted it back towards the net and took a header to clear the ball and save the point.

Four minutes later freshman Pu'uwaiha'a Kalauoka'ae'a-Kahele booted the ball from 35 yards out, it bounced off a Beacon defender and in front of Schreifels. The forward controlled the ball, turned around, and tapped it through the legs of another Bushnell defender to find the right foot of Sparks, who found the back of the net over the head of Bates.

Bushnell scored the equalizer goal in the 70th minute of the game, soon after the officials halted play for a water break because of the heat. The Beacons scored the go-ahead score in the final minute of the game as the Pioneers attempted to clear a free kick into the box and Chow chipped the ball past Young.

  • Schreifels had two shots on goal for the second consecutive game.
  • The Pioneers had two more shots on goal (6-4) in the loss.
