PORTLAND, Ore. –
Declan Cloutier earned the start at net for Lewis & Clark College men's soccer against Bushnell University and he combined with
Keahi Meredith for four saves, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Beacons prevailed 4-0 Saturday evening.
THE BASICS
Bushnell 4, Lewis & Clark 0
(Lewis & Clark 0-2)
(Bushnell 4-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ishan Abraham and
Ben Schwartz took the first two shots of the game but were unable to find the back of the net against Bushnell keeper Andre Ferreira.
The Beacons responded with their own assault on the Pioneers' goal and connected on their fourth attempt when Caleb Premo found Cole Sindt in the 18
th minute of the match.
Pioneer forward,
Nathaniel Pi-Sunyer responded with a shot three minutes later that went over the top of the net. The freshman earned his first collegiate start after playing 26 minutes against Caltech the day before.
Premo and Cloutier became very familiar over the next four minutes as the Bushnell forward attempted to score four times. Cloutier saved all three shots that were on goal and prevented the Beacon's leading scorer from adding another goal.
The Lewis & Clark defense held strong for the next 15 minutes and prevented any shots from Bushnell. Then at 41:19, Alejandro Munoz snuck a shot by Cloutier to put the Beacons up 2-0 at the half.
The Pioneers made a change at goalkeeper to start the second stanza and freshman Meredith made his collegiate debut. Meredith earned his first career save in the 55
th minute of the game, but only after the Beacons increased their lead to 3-0 five minutes earlier.
Pi-Sunyer attempted his team-leading second shot of the evening in the 73
rd minute but missed just right.
Bushnell added to their lead at 74:27 when Francisco Cayolla found Walter Ruestle for the score.
