HOW IT HAPPENED

Pi-Sunyer scored the Pioneers first goal of the Pioneers season in the 56th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 but the hosts tacked on three goals in a 20-minute span to earn the victory.

Freshman goalie Micaiah Garan made seven saves on 12 shots in his first collegiate start. He stopped four shots in the first half alone to keep the Pioneers in the contest and played the first 84:41 of the contest. Sophomore Ben Tallent come on for the final 5:19 of the game and did not face a shot.

Lawrence Dydell scored the first of his two goals at 11:50 to give Whittier a 1-0 advantage. The hosts doubled their lead at 22:57 when Rowan Slater found the back of the net.

Lewis & Clark cut the deficit to 2-1 at 55:43. Freshman Clay Scarth sent a through ball through two lines of defense to junior Beno Boda just outside the 18-yard box. Boda immediately cut the ball across the goal mouth to find Pi-Sunyer for a one-touch finish.

Whittier responded right away as Dydell completed his brace at the 59:51 mark.

Rowan Slater (73:52) and Nils Degardin (78:11) each added goals in the final 20 minutes to account for the final margin.
