PORTLAND, Ore.—Director of Physical Education & Athletics Mark Pietrok has announced the appointment of Brad Breier as the new head men's and women's golf coach at Lewis & Clark College.Â
Â
Breier comes to Lewis & Clark after a successful stint as an assistant coach at nationally ranked University of Redlands. After helping out with the program as a volunteer for several years, this past academic year Breier served as the assistant golf coach for both the men's and women's program. He helped guide the women's team to a sixth-place finish at the 2023 Division III National Championship Tournament and both programs to top-three finishes at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament.Â
"We are extremely excited to add Brad to our department," Pietrok said. "Our golf programs have been in search of consistency and Brad will bring that characteristic to our teams. He seems like the perfect fit to guide them into the future. He brings great experience of high-level Division III golf and Northwest Conference experience. His energy, passion, and plan for our programs set him apart from the rest of the candidates and I have no doubt he'll hit the ground running and look forward to watching his leadership develop our student-athletes."Â
Brier is no stranger to the Pacific Northwest and the NWC after playing baseball at Willamette University. He was a three-year starter for the Bearcats and earned All-Conference honors twice, including First Team All-Conference accolades as a junior.Â
"I would like to thank the hiring committee and everyone else that was involved in the hiring process," Breier said. "The committee, led by Angela Dendas-Pleasant, was able to work around my teaching and coaching schedule to allow me to interview virtually and in person. I would also like to thank the athletes, alumni, coaches, and admissions departments for all giving up their time to meet with me. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to the future of this program.Â
My vision for the program is simple, I want to win.  That being said, it is going to take time, patience and a lot of hard work to put this program in a position to win.  I am here for the long haul and I am excited with the amazing support here to see where we can take this program."Â
Since graduating from Willamette in 2015, Breier has worked as a teacher in California. He spent three years as a middle school history teacher, before turning his focus to working as an elementary school special education teacher for the past four years. He graduated from Chapman University in 2017 with his Masters in Education.
"As a past student-athlete myself, I am looking forward to creating a culture and experience that these athletes deserve and to build something here that this college and community can be proud of," Breier said. "This program is going to change and I will work hard to put us in the best position to succeed on the course. I am excited to get up to Portland and get started on all aspects of the position and prove that the hiring committee and everyone involved made the right decision."Â
Brier will begin his tenure at Lewis & Clark College on June 5.Â
