NWC FIELD OVERVIEW

George Fox University enters the tournament as the favorites after winning 12-consecutive Northwest Conference Championships. Despite graduating four of their top five players from a team that finished fourth at Nationals last Spring, George Fox (+54) finished first out of six Northwest Conference Teams at the Pacific Invitational (October 4-5). First year Ashlyn Johnson (+9) and junior Sofia Itziar Ayesa (+14) finished second and third out of 50 golfers at the two-day event. Whitman College, Pacific University and Whitworth University have all finished in the top-four of the women's standings the past two seasons. Whitworth (+74) and Pacific (+90) finished third and fourth at the Pacific Invitational, just behind Lewis & Clark College (+70).

Willamette University and Whitman College are expected to be two of the top contenders on the men's side. The two teams have finished first and second in the NWC Standings the past three years, with Willamette coming out on top last Spring. The Bearcats won the NWC Fall and Spring Classic last season and finished second behind host Linfield at the NWC Championship. Whitman finished in the top three of all three tournaments and won the NWC Title in 2024. Thus far this season, both teams have won two of their events and neither has finished below second place at a tournament. In the only head-to-head meeting, Willamette (-6) finished six strokes ahead of Whitman (Even) to finish first out of 13 teams at the Pacific Invitational. George Fox University (+8), Lewis & Clark College (+11) and Pacific Lutheran University (+12) placed third through fifth at the event.

LEWIS & CLARK PREVIEW

The Lewis & Clark women's team is aiming to take another step forward, after finishing fifth in the Northwest Conference last season. The fifth-place showing was their best as a program since the 2018-19 season. Lewis & Clark sophomore Ahika Jani will be one of the favorites for NWC Player of the Year after finishing second at least year's NWC Championship. Jani won last weekend's Pacific Invitational by three strokes and posted an under-par round for the first time in her career (70, -1). Fellow sophomores Evie Denton and Julia Klenk both played in the Lewis & Clark lineup all of last season and will look to help lead a young squad. Denton finished eighth at last year's NWC Fall Classic and tied for 11th at the Spring Classic. This year's team will also include first years Darwyn Kormany and Kimber Yoder. The duo will both be making their NWC Conference debuts on Sunday.

The men's team has been showing off their depth all Fall – as the team's B Squad has been proving competitive against A squads in both of their first two competitions. Junior Luke Blankinship and sophomores Mason Hill and Charlie Hageman were the only three Pioneers to play at all three NWC events last season. Hageman delivered top-10 results at the NWC Fall Classic (t-8th) and Spring Classic (t-5th). Blankinship (t-5th) and Hill (t-10th) each finished in the top-10 at the Spring Classic. Junior Kenji Pickeral and sophomores Tanner Moody and Joonho Moon all earned spots in the lineup in at least one of the NWC events last year. As a team, Lewis & Clark has finished in the top four in back-to-back events and will be looking to improve upon their sixth-place finish in the NWC Standings from a year ago. They placed in seventh at the NWC Fall Classic to open the year, before finishing fourth at the NWC Spring Classic and tied for fifth at the NWC Championship.
