PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College baseball gave up eight runs in the fourth inning to the University of Puget Sound on their way to a 15-1 defeat in the rubber match of the three-game conference series Wednesday afternoon at Huston Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Loggers scored a runner from first base after an errant throw from first to third on an infield single to take the early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Pioneers tied the game in the third inning when senior
Jack Thomson hit his 15
th home run of the season over the right field fence. Thomson's homer tied the program single-season home run record and extended his lead among Division III for home runs this season.
The Loggers retook the lead in the fourth as three Pioneer pitchers gave up eight runs on six hits to fall behind 9-1.
Sophomore
Brennen Davis made a fantastic diving catch in right-center field to end the fifth inning and hold the Loggers to only one run.
Puget Sound added to their lead with a fun in the seventh and four more in the eighth.
Freshman pitcher
Nathan Kerr finished the game on the mound for the Pioneers giving up a run and a hit in 1.2 innings. Logger pitcher Davis Franklin earned the win by striking out 12 batters and giving up five hits and a run in 6.1 innings. Sophomore
Kyle Wilsie struck out two batters but gave up four hits and three runs in the loss.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior Jakob Ghammachi hit his 11th double of the season. Ghammachi and Davis lead the team in doubles this year.
- Thomson's home run gives the Pioneers a Division III leading 49 home runs. They now have six more homers than Johns Hopkins and 14 more than NWC foe Pacific.
- Lewis & Clark was held to just one run for the first time in a year. The Loggers defeated the Pioneers precisely one year ago by an identical 15-1 score.
- Thomson is on an eight-game hitting streak and has safely made it on base in all 30 games this year and in 31 straight games dating back to last season.
