Andrew Baum posted a top-20 mark in program history in the men's hammer throw to lead a quartet of track & field athletes on Friday at the L&C Larry Byerly Invite.Ā
HOW IT HAPPENED

On his first throw of the day, Baum heaved the hammer 41.48m (136-01.00 feet) to set a new PR and move up five spots in the all-time rankings. His next throw traveled just over 125 feet and he fouled on the third throw to finish in 13
thĀ out of 39 competitors.Ā

Freshman
Nia Pile was the Pioneers lone representative in the women's hammer throw. She posted her best throw of the day on her second turn. Pile launched the hammer 25.28m (82-11.00 feet) to place 22ndĀ in the event.Ā

Lewis & Clark had a pair of student-athletes compete in the women's javelin.Ā

Piper McCoy Harmon and
Autumn Loporto each qualified for the nine-person final.Ā

McCoy Harmon earned a spot in the finals with her first throw-which traveled 31.27m (102-07.00 feet). On her first throw of the finals, the javelin flew 34.67m (113-09.00 feet) to move into sixth place. She improved upon that throw on her final turn of the day, when she posted a mark of 35.04m (114-11.00 feet) to secure sixth-place.Ā

Loporto improved in each of her three turns during the prelims. After throws of 26.95m and 29.15m, Loporto punched her ticket to the finals with a heave of 31.17m (102-03.00). Loporto would clear 88 feet on each of her final throws but her third of her six throws proved to be her best of the day.Ā

- The Larry Byerly Meet L&C Meet is in its first year of existence. It's named after Larry Byerly who was a track & field official for over 40 years and was the starter at Lewis & Clark track & field meets.Ā

The L&C Larry Byerly Invite will shift to Lewis & Clark's Eldon Fix Track for Day 2 of the meet. The track events will begin at 9:30 am and the field events will start at 11 a.m.Ā
