PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College men's tennis earned their Northwest Conference home opener 9-0 Sunday afternoon against Willamette University, in a match that saw every Pioneer in the lineup go 2-0 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Freshman
Kai Wills and sophomore
Matt Chio dominated Quentin Nigbur and Andrew Kropp 8-0 at No. 2 doubles to start the match. Junior
Miles Stone and sophomore
Bennett Gazor earned the second doubles point at the No. 3 spot with an 8-2 win over Andre Lief and Luca Casano. Senior
Kristian Peev and freshman
Wade McDermott grabbed the final doubles point at No. 1 with an 8-4 win over Andrew Kabacy and Veilbor Mladenovic.
Wills and Kropp met again at No. 4 singles, with Wills taking the point for the Pioneers in a 6-0, 6-3 win. He is now 2-1 at the fourth spot.
McDermott secured the dual win for the Pioneers at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nigbur. He is now 2-0 playing at No. 3.
In one of two matches that went three sets, Peev and Kabacy met at No. 1 singles. Peev convincingly one the first set 6-2. Kabacy then took set two in a close tiebreak of 7-6 (8-6). Since Lewis & Clark had already secured the dual win, the third set was a 10-point tiebreak, in which Peev won 10-5.
Stone served up two bagels at the fifth spot, taking down Allen 6-0, 6-0. Stone earned his first win of the season at No. 5; he is currently 2-1 in singles.
Chio earned his second singles win of the season and his first win at No. 2 singles with a come-from-behind victory over Mladenovic, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Gazor earned his second win in singles Sunday. He easily defeated Lief 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to move to 2-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior Logan Hausler and freshman Spencer Loucks earned an 8-2 exhibition win over Trey Allen and Spencer Chase.
- Hausler also won a singles exhibition 8-3 over Garrett Thornhill.
- Loucks won his singles exhibition 8-3 over Jake Freeland.
- The Pioneers have won the last six matches against the Bearcats by a combined score of 53-1.
