WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Lewis & Clark College men's tennis team jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles before dropping a 6-3 Northwest Conference road dual to Whitman College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneer senior/freshman doubles teams took the day's first two matches to give men's tennis an early 2-0 lead before the Blues won three points in a row. Senior
Kristian Peev and doubles teammate freshman
Wade McDermott took down Noah Baker and Diego Guzman 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. The No. 3 doubles team of senior
Alberto Dos Santos and freshman
Landon Cronin won 8-5 over Charles Rush and Artem Manov. This was the first match back for both Dos Santos and Cronin after missing some time due to injury. Sophomore
Matt Chio and freshman
Kai Wills dropped their doubles match 8-5 at the No. 2 spot to Lucas Huang and Aidan Schutter.
Down 2-1, Whitman tied the dual when Huang beat Cronin 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. They then took their first lead after the No. 4 match when Baker defeated Chio 6-4, 6-1.
Peev tied the dual at three all, winning a hard fought two-setter, 7-6(5), 7-6(5) at No. 1 singles over Harshvardhan Chopra.
The Blues regained the lead for good after the No. 3 singles match. Dos Santos dominated the first set, winning 6-1 over Schutter. The next two sets of the match were much closer, but it was Schutter who would prevail, 6-4, 6-4.
Whitman claimed the dual win after Alejandro Raffo defeated McDermott 6-1, 6-4 at the five spot. Wills then fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 to Chris O'Farrell.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Bennett Gazor and junior Miles Stone dropped an exhibition doubles match 8-3.
- Peev leads the Pios in dual wins this season. He has recorded five wins each in singles and doubles play.
- The doubles team of Peev/McDermott is 2-1 in NWC Play and has a team-leading three wins in duals.
- Dos Santos and Cronin picked up their first NWC doubles win of the season. They both have three total doubles wins in dual matches this spring.
