NEWBERG, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College men's tennis team dropped their first Northwest Conference dual 9-0 on the road against defending NWC champion George Fox University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers fell behind 3-0 after doubles to start the dual. Senior
Kristian Peev and freshman
Wade McDermott lost at No. 1, 8-4, to Camden Camacho and Vahag Pashayan. The other senior/freshman team of
Alberto Dos Santos and
Landon Cronin fell 8-5 to Lars Schmassmann and Hunter Fujimori at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore
Matt Chio and freshman
Kai Wills dropped the No. 2 doubles match 8-5 to Eli Mizerski and Austin Stone.
Dos Santos played No. 2 singles for the second consecutive dual match and fell 6-1, 6-0 to Pashayan.
McDermott played at the No. 4 spot for the first time in his collegiate career and dropped his match to Camacho 6-2, 6-2.
Chio faced George Fox's Stone for the second time on Saturday at No. 3 singles, losing 6-2, 6-3.
Junior
Miles Stone dropped No. 6 singles for the Pioneers against the Bruins' Fujimori in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Wills took on Schmassmann at No. 5 and fell 6-3, 6-2.
The last match to finish on the day was the No. 1 singles. Peev dropped the first set 6-2 to Mizerski and kept the second set close before losing 7-5.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Bennet Gazor played two exhibition matches against the Bruins. He teamed up with Stone in doubles and took on Alle Banna.
- Stone has only played two singles matches this year and is 1-1.
- Peev is the only Pio this season to win at least five games in his matches.
WHO'S NEXT
The Pioneers play their first NWC home match Sunday at 11 a.m. against Willamette, whom they beat 9-0 in a non-conference dual last week.
