Jonathan Fritz and
Malia Heien led the way for Lewis & Clark men's and women's outdoor track & field on Day 1 of the Pacific University Multis Meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S
Fritz and fellow freshman Nick State combined for five top-five finishes in the first five events of the men's decathlon.
Fritz started off the day by winning the 100m dash in 11.27 seconds. Stade came across in fourth place in the event with a time of 11.50.
In the long jump, Fritz finished in a tie for fifth place with a leap of 6.31m (20-08.50 feet). Stade was just behind him in seventh, after he jumped 6.21m (20-04.50 feet).
Fritz tacked on a third-place showing in the shot put. He launched a throw of 11.60m (38-00.75 feet). Stade ended the event in 11
th place after throwing 8.35m (27-04.75 feet).
Stade began his strong second half of the day by finishing sixth in the high jump. He cleared 1.76m (5-09.25 feet). Fritz placed 11
th in the high jump after he notched a successful jump of 1.70m (5-07.00 feet).
In the final event of day 1, Stade finished third in the men's 400m. He crossed the line in 52.22. Fritz took ninth place with a final mark of 55.01.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S
Heien posted PRs in every event and notched a trio of top-10 finishes to lead the women's team on Day 1 of the women's heptathlon.
The heptathlon started with the 100m hurdles. Heien took 13
th in the event with a time of 17.46. Sophomore
Olivia Farrar was just behind her in 15
th with a time of 18.27.
Heien cracked the top-10 in the high jump with a leap of 1.49m (4-10.50). That mark put her in a four-way tie for seventh. Farrar finished in a tie for 15
th after she cleared 1.37m (4-06.00 feet).
Heien added another top-10 showing in the shot put. She placed 10
th overall with a throw of 9.31m (30-06.50 feet). Farrar ended the event in 21
st with a throw of 7.19m (23-07.25 feet).
In the fourth and final event of the day, Heien earned her best finish of the day. The freshman took fifth place overall in the 200m with a time of 27.43. Farrar came in 15
th in the 200m with a time of 29.28.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Fritz stands just 83 points out of first place in the decathlon with five events to go. Stade is 100 points back of Fritz for fifth place but just 10 points out of seventh and 46 out of sixth.
- Heien set PRs in the 100m hurdles (1.01 seconds), high jump (.04 meters) and 200m (.36 seconds). She also competed in the shot put for the first time collegiately.
- Fritz set PRs in the 100m (.87 seconds) and shot put (0.80 meters).
- Stade posted PRs in the long jump (.13 meters) and shot put (.01 meters). He also ran the 100m and 400m for the first time at the college level.
- Farrar set a new PR in the shot put (.17 meters) and tied her collegiate-best mark in the high jump. She also competed in the 100m hurdles for the first time.
- The decathlon will resume on Friday with the final five events: 100m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m run.
- The heptathlon concludes on Friday with the final three events: long jump, javelin and 800m run.
WHAT'S NEXT
The decathlon continues on Friday at 11am with the 110m hurdles, while the heptathlon will pick up at Noon with the start of the long jump. Fritz stands less than 250 points out of 15
th place all-time in program history with five events to go and Heien is 118 points out of 20
th all-time in program history with three events left.
