HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting pitchers junior
Brett Pierson and sophomore
Luke Ritter struck out 12 batters and only gave up three total earned runs between the two games, while sophomore
Brennen Davis batted in three runners and hit a home run as the Pioneers won game one 4-2, and lost game two 6-3 on a Beacon walk-off three-run homer.
GAME ONE RECAP
In Bushnell's first at bat, Pierson gave up a single, struck out the next batter, then gave up a two-run homer to right field in the first inning. The two teams then combined for three total hits over the next four innings as the pitchers dueled it out.
The bats came alive for the Pioneers in the sixth. Bushnell pitcher Kai Keamo loaded the bases when he walked Pioneer senior
Jack Thomson, bringing up Davis. Davis and junior
Luke Bass hit back-to-back singles through the left side to each drive in a run. Thomson scored the go-ahead run on a Beacon fielding error on Bass' at bat. Two batters later, senior
Dylan Moore hit a single through the right side to drive in Davis.
Pierson pitched 6.2 innings, struck out four batters, and gave up five hits to earn his second win of the season.
GAME TWO RECAP
Bushnell struck first in game two, scoring two unearned runs to go up 2-0 after one. The Beacons made it 3-0 in the third. Lewis & Clark struck back in the sixth when Davis hit a two-run homer over the left field fence.
The Pioneers saw hope in the ninth, down 3-2 and a runner in scoring position after a double by sophomore
Will Heron. Moore entered to pinch run for Heron and advanced to third on a ground out by sophomore
Justin Cavagnaro. Junior
Jakob Ghammachi stepped to the plate with two outs and the tying run 90 feet away. Down to his last strike, Ghammachi hit a double to the gap in left-center field and drove in Moore to tie the game three all.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out, the Pioneers'
Kyle Wilsie walked one and hit another to move the winning run into scoring position for the Beacons, causing a pitching change. Bushnell's Jordan Wilson swung at junior
Tyler Shimabukuro's first pitch and sent the ball over the wall in left-center for the walk-off.
Ritter pitched seven innings giving up three runs (one earned) and striking out eight Beacons.
